CASE 3 : A CAESARIAN SECTION

When a bitch is having puppies, there are all sorts of reasons why things can go wrong. It can be a close call of judgement whether time is all that is necessary, or the use of drugs, or whether surgery is the only option. Caesarian sections have become a common procedure in humans and animals, and because they are so common, it is easy to take them for granted, They are NEVER routine, there is always risk to mother and pups.
In this case the mother had only one pup in her womb, and this was not sufficient to trigger off a normal birth.
Firstly, the patient is anaesthetised by injection
Then a tube is placed into her windpipe to allow gas to be administered
Mum is then prepared for surgery
After covering her with sterile drapes, the operation proceeds and the womb is brought to the outsideIs the puppy alive?
