A
RECORD BREAKER
This tumour weighs over 15 pounds, and was removed form a dog's abdomen. The little blackish strap of tissue running down the left hand side (arrows) is the spleen, the organ that this tumour is attached to. All the owner had noticed was that the dog was grunting when he got up, and had assumed that this was the result of simple old age.
A KIDNEY STONE
In this case a little dog came in as the owner was concerned that he was just a bit off colour, and had noticed that his abdomen was swelling up. It was immediately obvious that ther was a problem as it was possible to feel a large lump inside him. We operated:

The lump turned out to be an enormous (15cm) kidney, which was so damaged that
it had to be removed:
When
we investigated we found that the cause of the problem was a stone which had
lodged in the tube which took urine out of the kidney to the bladder. The kidney
had blown up under the pressure which hadbuilt up.
Here's the stone:
And don't worry, the patient did fine, he still has another kidney!
