We thought you might to know a little more about some of our team members here at Avonvale, so we had a chat with our Animal Nursing Assistant Gary about his role, pot bellied pigs, and...Tom Hardy!

Q: What's your job title and how long have you worked at Avonvale?

A: I'm an Animal Nursing Assistant and have been with Avonvale since 2006

Q: Why do you like working for Avonvale? What do you look forward to most at work?

A: I like working for Avonvale as no two days are the same. You work very closely as a team on a daily basis and the training offered is great - I have completed my Animal Nursing Assistant course and my Diploma in Canine Behaviour with merit. I look forward to every day being different.

Q: What are the least favourite parts of your job?

A: Watching puppies and kittens and other pets grow old and the owners having to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to their much loved family pets.

Q: What made you want to do this job?

A: I have loved animals since I was a child. I grew up with a wide range of pets from pot bellied pigs and goats to a large range of dog breeds - rottweilers, bullmastiffs, labradors, parson russell terrier, staffordshire bull terrier, and now a shih tzu. I always knew I wanted to work with animals.

Q: What do you do to turn things around when you’re having a bad day?

A: Take a deep breath, put the kettle on, and eat cake!

Q: If you could be any animal what would you be and why?

A: Springer spaniel because I'm a bit crazy!

Q: What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?

A: That I sit cuddling animals all day

Q: What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

A: I used to sing semi professionally in national competitions and also private events.

Q: What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?

A: Dogs always make me smile

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?

A: Tom Hardy!!
