They always say that things come in three's and that was certainly the case over the last week at Avonvale! We have had three caesarians.
We started on Friday with a Boxer who had 5 puppies. Saturday night vet Katie and nurse Sarah B operated into the small hours on Italian Greyhound Katie (picture). She had three puppies, including an all white one which is rare in this breed.
Next came a Chihuahua on Monday who had two puppies. It is a good thing that we all like to keep busy! Most whelpings go smoothly at home without the need for any assistance but when they run into problems both mum and pups can be in danger, needing quick assistance to help them. At Avonvale we also have one of our own vets on call for emergencies just like these.
