Bryn was in season but had suddenly become very quiet and sleepy and not herself. She wasn't interested in her food and so her owners brought her in to see us.

Vet Emily found that Bryn had a high temperature and a sore tummy. She performed an ultrasound scan  and discovered that Bryn was suffering from a condition called a Pyometra. This is where the uterus becomes infected and fills with pus. It can be life threatening if not treated quickly.

It was 6.30pm so Bryn was taken across to our hospital at Warwick where Katie, our vet on call, started her on a drip and operated on her that evening to remove the uterus and all of the infection. She stayed in overnight to continue on her drip and her pain relief, with our dedicated night nurse watching over her. She was able to go home the next day.

She has recovered well and is now back to her normal self. This is a condition that is common in female dogs that have not been neutered and can be prevented by spaying. If you would like to find out more about the arguments for and against getting your dog spayed please call us and we will be happy to discuss them with you.
